Hello everybody! The holidays are here, for some of us! ENJOY!

a. Triduum. It's for the youths! Please wear green, and be ready to help out wherever you've signed up for or been allocated to! Logistics and ushers.
31 May
a. Beginning of Church History preparations. Anyone who's interested, feel free to come down and help! We'll appreciate every bit of help we could get. More information later in the post.
b. Family Fiesta! Please bring $5 to be paid to Rebecca for the tickets, for those who ordered.
1 June
a. For those who are going for Sec 2 Camp, this is the training session. 10am to 2pm.

The actual dates of Church History sessions are on the Saturdays from 5 July to 2 August, please make sure you can commit.

Upcoming sessions!
Hello everybody!
Please note, session on Saturday, 3rd May is at Surin Park. We're gonna have a bonding session and frisbee there! It's optional though, for those who have a lot of work to do..
Sunday, 4th May please be at the MM Room at 11am, after catechism class! A speaker (Raymond Rodriguez) is coming in to give us a talk on facilitation. It'll be really good and it's especially important for those who want to help out in ConCamp 2008!
If you can't make it for the talk, please sms Ivy/Roy and give a valid reason. Please also contact either of them if you don't know how to get to Surin. :D Thanks!

IHMYC Seniors' Retreat 2008
The retreat was a huge success! Many thanks to all the youth cats who actually put aside them during this busy weekend to come down and participate in the sessions! :D
The first session was the creation of one's soul country. This country was to reflect the many good and bad events in our lives, ups and downs, and we could represent these with marshes, bogs, forests, trees, plateaus and other wonders of nature. We were provided with paper and art materials to create this soul country. Many people came up with different ideas for their own countries - some countries looked like a calculator, some was divided into 16 squares exactly depicting 16 years on earth, some were collages, and some were real geographical maps and one was even a 3D map with trees that could stand! The variety of maps certainly impressed Sr Susan, our retreat mistress.
The second session was on Saturday morning, where we recognized the gifts that each and every one of us were blessed with. On a piece of paper, we wrote down our gifts of being, gifts of doing and gifts of having. "I am... I can... I have..." After that we shared our discovery of our gifts with groupmates, which was followed by a large group sharing where everyone talked about their feelings during sharing.
Next up was affirmation. A piece of paper was stuck to our backs and we went about in silence, writing good remarks about people on their pieces of paper, reaffirming them. Even people who had to leave the retreat for various reasons got a piece of paper for others to affirm them! We were then given reflection questions on our affirmations and our gifts, and most of us went to journal about our feelings and the questions. All the affirmations we read made us feel warm and fuzzy inside.. Aww!
Lunch and an hour of study time was up next. At 3pm, Sr Susan and all the retreat participants gathered back in Prayer Hall A/B for the next session. We penned down our hopes and prayers for our follow retreat participants. Most people hoped that their friends would be able to cope with their new lives in new schools, whilst others prayed for IHMYC as a whole that we may grow in faith together.
By this time, the Y1s were due to arrive anytime! Marissa gave us instructions to prepare a skit depicting different bible passages, and the Y1s were incorporated into our different groups. Some of these passages include the one about the widow giving her all to the church treasury, Zacchaeus climbing a tree in order to see Jesus, an official's son being healed, and the ten bridesmaids of which five were foolish. There were several memorable moments, some of which were unfortunately not captured on camera ):
Everyone went for anticipatory mass together on Saturday evening and some Y1s joined us. Silence was imposed until the next session began at 9pm. Pochinello made his appearance.
This session was easily the most serious and emotional session for a lot of the YCs. The seniors acted out a skit featuring Pochinello and the woodcarver, and Sr Susan led us in a meditation to find out what this woodcarver (God) is saying to us in order to help us let go of any heavy burdens we might be carrying. All the answers from the woodcarver went into a beautiful piece of architecture where everyone could appreciate the replies from God. Due to the emo-ness of this session, we had a cheer-up party after that..
An ICE CREAM PARTY! A surprise was sprung on all those in the food room! Two boxes of neopolitan ice cream and two bars of Cadbury chocolate awaited us! :D It was an utterly scrumptious dessert. Totally unexpected, it was the best ending to a day that we could have. Everyone went off on their own activities from there feeling full and satisfied. The entire camp was feeling rather high - giggling fits ensued in the shower, and nobody was really ready to sleep until Roy insisted that we had to. [Cat class the next day!]
The last session was on Sunday morning before the last cleanup and catechism class. It was the missioning of the youth catechists - all of us were given a slip of paper to keep, with a unique bible quote on it. It related to our calling as catechists and as disciples of Christ. From there, we finished our clearing up and officially broke camp. And of course, we went to fulfill our calling!

Sec 2 Camp will be on the 6th to 8th of June. Year1s, this is your chance to facilitate! If you are unable to attend the camp, please inform Carolyn by Friday, 21 March, to take you off the list of facilitators. Year2s, you're welcome to help out in this as well. Penitential service in IHM is on 12 Mar, Wednesday. Who is interested in going as a group, please take note that that we're meeting at the statue of Jesus before mass. :)
Also, upcoming events are A Walk with Jesus and the YM Canteen.
A Walk with Jesus is on Holy Thursday night and it will be an overnight semi-silent walk to the parishes in the Serangoon District. Consent forms will be issued for this, so if you wish to go please inform Carol.

Fr Luke's talk on Lent
Summary of Father's talk:
1st part: 4 major aspects of scripture linked to the Eucharist.
Vatican II - All grace and spiritual power flows from the Mass
Eucharist is the apex (everything else comes from it)
Don't ask Priest for blessing after the Mass as you already get it from the Mass
System at Eucharist - everything is nice and neat BUT it had a very messy past
4 major aspects of scripture:
1. Genesis 15:1-18 (Yahweh's Covenant)
Take aways:
- Evidence of spilt life and spilt blood
Life is about death
Something must die so that something beautiful can happen
- God walked through split animals for us
Even if we walk away from our covenant with God, God will not
- Don't be unevenly yolked
With reference to marriage (2 Corinthians 6:14)
2. Genesis 22 (Sacrificing Isaac)

3. Exodus 7 (Plagues God sent in Egypt)
Take away:
- Yahweh is stronger than any other God!
The different plagues represented other Gods and Pharaoh. By sending the plagues in Egypt, God showed that he was stronger than all the other Gods.
4. Exodus 12:1-14 (Slaughtering of an unblemished lamb)
Take aways:
- Share the lamb (community!)
- Sacrifice must be unblemished (or clean)
2nd part: Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday
Jeremiah 31:31 - God will make a new covenant
Last supper - Jesus = new and everlasting covenant
Holy Thursday
Take aways:
- We should remain solemn till Holy Thursday
- We should be with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane by spending 1 hour with Jesus in front of the Altar of repose
- Crucifixes and statues are covered
- No Tabernacle light
Good Friday

- Service not Mass
- Mass of Jesus the High Priest so Priests wear red
- Veneration of the wood
- Kiss the CROSS not Jesus' feet

- Altar is bare

- Alleluia (not allowed to say this throughout lent)
- Elects and Godparents pass through pews led by Jesus to the waters of Baptism
- Consecration of new bread

Lamb of God - Abraham's covenant
Isaac to be sacrificed - God provided the ram that became the lamb
"Through Him, with Him, in Him" - Highest point. Jesus on Calvary. (Jesus is not THE sacrifice; we must respond to God's love)
Luke 7:36 (The woman who washed Jesus' feet with her tears and hair)
- She spared nothing to wash His feet, anointed Him before His death on Calvary.
Jesus spared nothing to show God's love for us on Calvary!

Vatican II - All grace and spiritual power flows from the Mass
Eucharist is the apex (everything else comes from it)
Don't ask Priest for blessing after the Mass as you already get it from the Mass
System at Eucharist - everything is nice and neat BUT it had a very messy past
4 major aspects of scripture:
1. Genesis 15:1-18 (Yahweh's Covenant)
Take aways:
- Evidence of spilt life and spilt blood
Life is about death
Something must die so that something beautiful can happen
- God walked through split animals for us
Even if we walk away from our covenant with God, God will not
- Don't be unevenly yolked
With reference to marriage (2 Corinthians 6:14)
